Texan mad at IRS crashes plane into Austin office

Associated Press - February 19, 2010 12:25 PM ET

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Austin police and fire investigators today picked through the wreckage of an IRS office building after a pilot died crashing his plane into the structure.

Investigators also were at Joseph Stack's home about six miles away - which Stack apparently set fire to before taking off in his plane yesterday.

The Red Cross says his wife, Sheryl Stack, was expected to address the media sometime today.

The Associated Press reports one law enforcement official said investigators are trying to find out if a marital dispute led to Joseph Stack's angry suicide mission. A person in the building also was killed.

Authorities say 13 people were injured. One man remained hospitalized today at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio with burns and was stable.

The pilot's father-in-law told The New York Times that Stack had a "hang-up" with the IRS.
