McKINNEY, Texas (AP) - A planned sewer pipeline project through a museum and wildlife sanctuary in north Texas is closer to construction.
The North Texas Municipal Water District on Tuesday secured approval to proceed with the line through part of the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney.
Three special commissioners, appointed by a judge, agreed with the district's $47,000 appraisal for the land, allowing the eminent domain purchase to proceed.
The museum says the land is worth $170,000 and will appeal, in part based on results expected this month from an environmental impact study.
District spokeswoman Denise Hickey told KTVT-TV that the pipeline would be in a perimeter area with the least environmental impact.
Heard spokeswoman Amber Caceres says the sanctuary was meant to be a sanctuary and "it just won't ever be the same."
