TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson is planning to appoint a new commerce secretary.
Parkinson has scheduled a Friday morning news conference at the Statehouse. The new secretary will replace Dave Kerr, who was named Thursday as director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
The announcement that Kerr was leaving upset Republican leaders in the Kansas House.
The state is trying to attract an office complex for Missouri-based Cerner Corp. and a major league soccer stadium to Kansas City, Kan. Some lawmakers, particularly House Republicans, have questioned whether Kerr has been aggressive enough in pursuing a deal.
But Parkinson has said the administration has been aggressive and has praised Kerr.
