OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - CommVault Systems Inc. on Wednesday reported a flat fiscal second-quarter profit as rising operating expenses and revenue costs overshadowed an increase in sales.
For the quarter that ended Sept. 30, the data management software maker earned $4.7 million, or 11 cents per share. When excluding one-time items, CommVault earned 17 cents per share.
CommVault's revenue rose 5 percent to $66.7 million. Software revenue fell 5 percent to $33.5 million, while services revenue jumped 18 percent to $33.1 million.
The results topped estimates of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, who generally exclude one-time items from their estimates. They expected a profit of 16 cents per share on sales of $62.7 million, on average.
Operating expenses rose, due mainly to an increase in sales and marketing expenses. The company's total cost of revenues also climbed to $9 million from $7.7 million.
CommVault shares fell 73 cents, or 3.6 percent, to close at $19.59.
