Celanese expands manufacturing facility in China

Posted: Updated:

DALLAS (AP) - Chemical maker Celanese Corp. said Monday it is expanding one of its manufacturing facilities in China.

The company said the expanded facility will double its vinyl acetate ethylene, or VAE, capacity in the region. The plant is expected to be operational in the first half of 2011.

VAE is used to make hot melt adhesives or hot glue sticks, as well as plastic wraps.

Celanese has been working to grow its investments in China. The facility in Nanjing is the largest integrated site in the company's worldwide manufacturing network. It has six production units.

The new VAE emulsions plant's manufacturing and supply chains will be integrated with the company's current facilities.

Shares of Celanese fell 16 cents to close at $25.97.
