Amarillo, Texas - Theatre Group Avenue 10 is set to stage "Midsummer Nights Nude", an adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream."

Raven Ministries asked city hall to deny Avenue 10 a venue. In fact, they got one.

Avenue Ten will be performing "Midsummer Nights Nude"  on Sixth Avenue. The building may be familiar. It's where protestors gathered earlier in the year to complain about "swingers". Some of the protestors have become part of Raven Ministries and they don't want Avenue 10 to perform what they believe will be a nude play.

David Grisham of Raven Ministries says, "If you are basically stripping your clothes off on stage and you're charging money for it, you're basically operating like one of the strip clubs, like Beavers or something like that. And we think that should be covered under the adult business ordinance."

Avenue 10 is currently rehearsing for their performance. They have a reputation for pushing the envelope in Amarillo, however they're coy about nudity in the show.

Sirc Michaels, the theatre group's communication person says, "Man sort of basically goes back to nature, everything is stripped from him, which is where we get the nude from. And how much nude there is, you'll have to see the show."

Grisham says, "We think it's an offense morally, we think it's an offense against the standards of our community here in Amarillo, and we also think its an offense against art. I've said this before, it's basically on the maturity level of like a kid taking a marks-a-lot and drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa."

Michaels says, "If it's going to cause people to think and provoke them, well then, that's what art should do. This is William Shakespeare and it's stirring controversy in Amarillo. It's really kind of cool."

The show goes up at 8pm, Friday, November 13th and Saturday, November 14 and the following weekend at 413 Sixth Avenue at the Route 66 Party and Event Rental.
