Center for the Study of the American West to host upcoming events

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - The Center for the Study of the American West is hosting two upcoming events during the month of March.

On Tuesday, March 19, CSAW will host award-winning historian Dr. Deborah Liles for her lecture, ‘Oliver Loving: Dean of the Trails'.

Known as the Dean of the Texas Cattle Trails, Oliver Loving’s early life and an event in 1857 are the main topics of Liles’ lecture, expanding on the events that shaped who he was and what drove him.

The presentation begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Hazlewood Room of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum.

On Thursday, March 28, CSAW will present ‘Red Dead Rouge’, a panel discussion that explores women’s roles in the Old West, with an emphasis on the portrayal of these roles in the video game Red Dead Redemption II.

The panel will include faculty from West Texas A&M University, including Dr. Amy Von Lintel, Dr. Jean Stuntz , Dr. Alex Hunt and Ms. AJ McCormick.

The event takes place at 7:00 p.m. in the Hazlewood Room of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum.

Both events are free and open to the public, and will follow with a light reception.
