Texas health officials confirm cattle tuberculosis in area dairy, calf-raising operation

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Texas State health officials have confirmed cattle in a Panhandle dairy and a calf-raising operation have tested positive for cattle tuberculosis.

According to a news release, both facilities are under quarantine until the Texas Animal Health Commission can confirm that the infected animals have been removed.

Inspectors are also looking at other facilities associated with the infected dairy in Sherman County and calf operating in Dallam County.

The agency said tuberculosis can spread to other animals and humans, however, pasteurization of milk removes the disease while meat from infected animals doesn’t enter the food chain.
