Canadian recognized as designated film friendly city

CANADIAN, TX (KFDA) - Governor Greg Abbott announced on Friday that the City of Canadian has been designated a Film Friendly Texas community by the Texas Film Commission.

Governor Abbott announced that Canadian received the film friendly designation after completing multi-step training and a certification process.

“It’s just a beautiful place,” said Board President of the Canadian Art Alliance Mistie Walser back in September. “And I think if we can get people into Canadian and get that on the big screen and just show them what we have up here, that’s just going to do wonders for our tourism and our little town.”

The film friendly designation comes from the Texas Film Commission, which aims to grow local jobs and local economies by promoting Texas as the premier destination for film, television, commercial, animation, visual effects and video game production.

Canadian now joins the more than 130 Film Friendly Texas communities that receive training and guidance from the Texas Film Commission on media industry standards, best practices and how to effectively accommodate on-location filming activity in their community.
