AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Bell will see more helicopter business thanks to a contract to supply AH-1Z Vipers to the Middle East kingdom of Bahrain.

The Navy awarded the contract for $240 million on Thursday. According to the Department of Defense, about 40 percent of the work on the 12 attack helicopters will be done at the Amarillo plant.

That work is to be finished by Augusts 2020.

In January, Bell received a $440 million contract to build 25 more Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters for the Navy.

According to the company’s website, the Bell AH-1Z flies with the most advanced aircraft weapons and survivability equipment in the world. The helicopter is the only attack helicopter in the world with a fully integrated air-to-air missile capability.
