Clovis man sentenced after being found guilty of 6th DWI

CLOVIS, NM (KFDA) - A Clovis man was sentenced to three and a half years today after being found guilty in November 2018 for his 6th DWI.

Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb announced that 43-year-old Gerardo Vasquez was sentenced on February 7 to two and one-half years for driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor - 6th offense, a special third degree felony. Vasquez was also sentenced one year for driving while his license was revoked, a misdemeanor.

“Our office is committed to making sure these repeat DWI offenders are held accountable for their actions and I hope that the Judge in this case will sentence Vasquez to the maximum prison time allowed by law,” said Reeb.

The State provided evidence during Vasquez’s sentencing hearing of five prior convictions for driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, ranging from 1998 to 2012.

The Honorable Matthew Chandler noted that Vasquez proclaimed he likes to drink daily and he has no intention to stop drinking.

Vasquez will spend his three and a half year sentence in the New mexico Department of Corrections.
